Wildfire Mitigation
Recent wild fires in our area have all been cited as being man-made. Unfortunately our communities are situated in a dry collection of thick undergrowth that is tender for a spark to ignite into a tragedy. These man-made threats have a solution, and through the help and cooperation of our area communities and the citizens who reside, the solution rests in the individual land owner hands. In order to prevent catastrophe, a massive forestry underbrush cleanup and proper disposal efforts must be made. And to do so, each land owner must take responsibility and create defensible space for wild fire mitigation.
Sierra Contracting, Inc. helps to recycle Lincoln County's wild fire threat through beneficial re-use of small diameter trees, slash and pine needles into forest waste compost. Portable contracting with large scale capabilities, Sierra Contracting, Inc. can handle the grinding, mulching and even turn-key composting for municipalities or private land owners.
Sierra Contracting, Inc. is a large-scale organic disposal operation which has been established in Lincoln County since 1996. Conveniently situated behind green hillsides, Sierra Contracting, Inc. is away from the onsite view of traffic and only 1/2 miles east of Ruidoso Downs.
The Village of Ruidoso has renewed their contracts for the 2004 fiscal year with Sierra Contracting, Inc. for their disposal diversions in lieu of transporting tons of waste materials to the Otero-Lincoln Counties Landfill south of Alamogordo on US 54. Thus saving a 160 mile round trip effort while offering a recycling opportunity of forest organic waste and trimmings. This great step on the Village of Ruidoso's part now provides an environmentally friendly service for those residing within the Village limits.
Through
joint efforts, Sierra
Contracting, Inc.* and the Village of Ruidoso offer residents curbside
collection of forestry organic waste and trimmings. These collections
are then recycled into a naturally based compost suitable for landscaping.
The compost is a nutrient rich soil enhancer, an excellent alternative
to mere decomposed branches, limbs and tree stumps. *Sierra Contracting,
Inc. is a registered small-solid waste transfer station and owns and operates
(3) roll-off trucks and 28) roll-off containers for organic and construction/demolition
waste disposal.
